Lions Draft/Draft Grades

It would have been tough to pass on Calvin Johnson, the best prospect in the draft. But Drew Staton, Ikaika Alama-Francis, Gerald Alexander, Johnny Baldwin and Ramzee Robinson are all players that need to develop. When you have the second worse record in the league. You need players that can make an immediate impact. Although I thinkManuel Ramierz will be a good NFL player (the 4th round selection) The offensive line needed to be addressed. Along with defensive back and the linebacker position, drafting a linebacker in the 6th round was not smart when Paul Posluszny (linebacker from Penn State) and David Harris (LB from Michigan) were available in the second round. Players that could have filled a huge hole on this team and trade back to draft Drew Staton, a quarterback that will not play for at least two years. Not to mention they trade themselves out of the third round, to come back in the second round, to draft guys who are not only protected 3rd and 4th round picks. The draft guys that will be back up players. This team is no better on the defensive side of the ball and they ahd the #2 pick. To not address the defense at all, to not get better and give yourself better chances to win football games.....the Lions get a "D"as their draft. The only good thing I can say about them is they did not get the worst draft grade.

The Detroit Lions draft was not that bad. i see what they are doing here. What did the coach say, "It is not about the names on the back of the jersey. I'm putting together a team. Players that want to work hard" I think that Matt Millen finally got it right. I think that people will be surprised about this season. The Lions may not be a playoff team yet, but you will see improvements all over the board. The Detroit Lions will win 7 games this season and Calvin johnson will win the offensive rookie of the year.

Mel Kiper of ESPN said that the Detroit Lions draft grade was a C-. All the experts love the Calvin Johnson, but the Lions did not draft any players that could have made an impact on their team. Paul Posluszny was available in the second round, but the Lions decided to pass on him to trade and draft a quarterback. Trent Edwards fell all the way to the third round, they could have gotten him. The Lions could have used that pick on MLB David Harris from Michigan. And with their second pick in the second round, they draft a DE who is a project. Why not a DB. They traded Dre Bly to the Broncos, and there is no one to replace him at that position. To make things worse, they trade their two third round selections to come back in the second round and draft a safety who will be a back up player. The Lions did a bad job drafting again. And this is something to think about. With Matt Millen and coach Marinelli drafting these project players, this could mean Millen will not get fired no time soon, and Marinelli isn't going anywhere no time soon. Over a six year period, the Lions record is 24/72 with no playoff appearances. They have not won more than six games in a season since Millen have been GM of the Lions. Look at the success of the Pistons, Red Wings, and the Tigers who was the worse team in baseball three years ago, to a world series appearance. The people of Detroit do not deserve this. We win here. You guys who run this team are stupid and I a long with everyone in this state who are fans of this team want you to sale the team to people who care about winning. This team has never been to superbowl and have only won one playoff game in the last 50 years. Get it together.
